Notice to Parents/Guardians:
Student Initiated Challenge to help Haitian Neighbors in Distress

2 week challenge
1. Students have suggested that we daily have available a collection jar for students willing to contribute their change to the relief support work for our Haitian neighbors. Talk to your child to make sure that what they bring is ok with you. We will have a collection center provided daily for 2 weeks beginning Monday, January 25.
1 day challenge
2. On Wednesday, January 27, our school district’s students will dress in red, white, blue or camouflage to support our armed forces. We usually walk around the school in the morning on Wednesdays in support of the CATCH program for healthy Texas children, so we will put up a challenge to you, family and friends of Northside.

You can donate a lump sum for your student’s lap or challenge your student to walk more laps, making a contribution for each lap. Lump sum and per lap amounts can be presented in check form, made out to The American Red Cross (include your birthdate and driver’s license’s # on the check) or cash. I am not set up to provide individual receipts for this, so if you want tax-credit for the non-profit contribution, your check will serve as your receipt. All cash donated for the “walk-a-thon” will be collected, counted, and one check written to the Red Cross. I will be contacting Sara Musselman, whose husband is a WHS 1998 graduate Marine Andrew Musselman who has been deployed with his military troop to provide relief support to the Haitians. She is spearheading a benefit at Chick-fil-a this Saturday, Jan. 23 from 11-7 PM. $1 from each full meal will be given by the eatery. The plan is to give her our contribution next week to put with Saturday’s funds. The Red Cross will split the money 2 ways “Haitian Relief” and “Red Cross Services to Armed Forces Committee”.
